What will I get ?

All commissioned pet portraits are painted in oil on high quality, gallery wrapped canvas, with a 1 1/2" profile which means they can be displayed either framed or unframed.

If you wish to have your pet portrait framed, I recommend a 'floating frame'.

You can choose to have me frame it here in my studio at an extra cost, ( please enquire about framing in your contact message ) or it can be delivered unframed and either hung 'frameless' or you may choose to frame it yourself.

How long does it take ?

As each piece is hand painted and each pet-subject presents it's own unique challenges, commissions can take anywhere between 2 and 6 weeks to complete depending on the size and complexity of the painting and the number of orders I am working on at the time.

For locations outside the **Montreal-Ottawa corridor delivery times are variable. Where possible, order well in advance.

**Orders within the Montreal-Ottawa area allow for quicker delivery times.

How do I set up a commission ?

  • First have a look at the sizes of paintings I offer.
( click here to go to my size and pricing page )

  • Then send me a message through my contact page.  Be sure to include any information about the type of pet you wish to have painted and the size of canvas you are considering.  Please include your pet's name.
( please note it is possible to have more than one animal included in the same painting, but each individual animal comes with an additional cost of 50% of the price paid for a single portrait )

  • You may want to include an image of your pet in your initial contact, there is a field provided for that, or you may wish to send any photos at a later date once the commission is set up.

  • I will respond within a couple of days and we can firm up your choices and begin the process of creating your pet's portrait.

How does payment work ?

At present payment is not available directly through this website.

Once you contact me and we settle on the various aspects of the commission, we can discuss the most mutually convenient and secure method to make payments.

Please note that I do ask for 50% of the commission price 'up front' to cover my studio costs and materials. The balance of the payment is due upon completion of the painting prior to delivery.  Thank you for understanding

What type of images to send.

As I don't know your pet (yet)  I will need some images of them to work from.

You can submit an image or two with your initial message on my contact page, but we can have a discussion after that point to decide whether further images might be required.

It's always a good idea to send a few different images showing a variety of moods or poses, and naturally if you have a particular favourite image that you want me to recreate in paint, please indicate that with your submissions.  I would still recommend that you include a few other images to help me familiarize myself with the structure of your pet's head and body, their colouring and, of course, their personality.

Obviously, the better the quality of the images and the lighting, the more faithfully I can capture them in your painting.

If you don't have any photographs of your pet at all, or any of good quality,

( I know, pets don't seem to understand the concept of posing for a picture ! )

we can discuss other options for capturing their likeness.

Here are some examples of good quality images.

Well focused, close-up images are always best.  Consider getting down to your pet's eye level, for a more intimate angle. If you have a great picture of their face already, another, showing their body will be helpful. Colour images are the best for me to work from.  If possible, a glint of light in their eyes is desirable.
